CORRIE MARIJNEN

Coach for doctors and researchers | Professor of radiotherapy

Corrie Outdoor_edited.jpg

For years, I have been happily working long hours getting energy from being a medical doctor, researcher and manager in the discipline of radiation oncology. The beautiful contact moments with patients, the excitement of new research findings, the challenge of setting up new collaborations and improving healthcare in any aspect, I loved it. However, the last few years, I sometimes noticed a little nagging voice in the back of my head: what about your life outside medicine, your love for outdoors and sports, the time you spend with your friends and loved ones?

Ignoring this voice was easy: I was not used to listening to it and I had a commitment to fulfil: leading a new department! My relatives and friends were worried, I didn’t see what they were talking about.

When things didn’t go the way I envisioned, I fell back to my one and only reflex: WORK HARDER!! My relatives and friends got extremely worried, but I didn’t feel it. Finally it were my body and mind that told me to stop: I was so tired, I couldn’t be my normal optimistic self anymore, feeling lost and failed. The realisation that things had to change was one thing, but knowing how and what was far more difficult: my identity was being a department chair, a radiation oncologist and researcher, what else could I do? One thing was clear for me: I needed help.. Going on a transformational leadership trail in the mountains of Austria was one of the best things I ever did. With the help of a team of professional and compassionate coaches, I found myself back within those three days, alive, kicking and laughing more than I had done for a long time. Accepting that I had to stop as department chair and clinician, was the first and easiest step. Not going back in my old pitfall and frantically starting in a new job was a completely different thing. Allowing to feel what made me really happy and what my secret dreams were, was a big, big step. Permitting myself to live up to those dreams, was the biggest achievement. I would not have gotten there, without the gift of this trail... Going on the trail was an experience, I would grant to everyone. My new dream was born! Organise such trails for my colleagues working in the medical world…

WHO IS IT FOR?

This program is designed for healthcare professionals (HCPs) who have dedicated their lives to caring for others and feel it is time to invest in themselves.

Whether you're feeling depleted, at a crossroads, or simply longing for space to reconnect with what matters most, this program offers a pause. A breath. A new perspective.

The program is more than a getaway. it's an invitation to reorient, realign, and discover the strength, clarity, and joy that brought you into this profession in the first place.

There is no specific fitness level or hiking experience required. We only need you to respect our Trail Essentials.

If you find yourself asking:

  • Who do I want to be professionally?

  • What do I need to come closer to who I truly am?

  • What do I need to be the best version of myself?

  • What would make me more aware of my boundaries/limits?

  • What do I need to stay vital at my work?

  • What dreams do I have for the last period of my working life?

  • What is my identity if I am not a HCP?

  • Want to make a step, but which one?

  • How can I add value in next phase in my life/career?

  • Am I still able to care deeply without feeling emotionally drained?

  • Where does this feeling of not being good enough come from?

  • How can I feel more whole and less divided between work and personal life?

  • Am I stuck in a pattern I no longer want to repeat?

  • What is draining my energy? And what would help me feel more alive again?

OUR PROCESS

Theory U is the basis of our approach. Developed by Otto Scharmer (MIT) and his colleagues, Theory U helps people breakthrough unproductive ways of searching for solutions, and instead leads to profound innovation and change. Our objective in using this process is to enable you to find your “blind spot” and unblock your ultimate potential. Read more about our process and the six building blocks that form the program.

BUILDING BLOCKS OF THE PROGRAM

This program is constructed with different building blocks. Below you can find the definition of each block.

INTAKES

An individual intake interview is planned for each participant with one of our facilitators/coaches. We will not only help you clarify your objective for your upcoming journey but also enable the team to get to know you, to understand your special requirements, and to support your wishes for your experience.

PRE TRAIL CHOACHING SESSION

Before the Trail experience you will have a one-to one coaching session with one of our Transformational Coaches. These sessions are designed to help you define your goals, discover your potential blind spots and to find out what needs to happen during your Transformational Trail experience to reach your goals.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

Prior to the Trail we will plan a day workshop with all participants to explore some leadership development models and approaches to support your transformation including the theory behind our Trail. We will also brief you about what we will be doing during the Trail experience and how you need to prepare yourselves both emotionally and practically.

THE TRAIL

An extraordinary 4-nights /days expedition that will have a significant impact on you and
your life. Your journey will start and finish at Salzburg airport and will include the items listed below:

  • Airport transport to and from the hotel

  • 4-night stay in a pleasant apart hotel in a single room apartment

  • All meals: breakfasts, lunches and dinners throughout your stay

  • Intensive one-on-one coaching sessions

  • Group exercises

  • Guided hikes

  • Necessary equipment (if needed for your specific program)

  • Every 3 participants will have 1 facilitator/coach to ensure a personalised approach

INTEGRATION WORKSHOP &

DRINK

Approximatley six weeks after the Trail experience, we will meet with all participants and facilitators for a workshop and drink. We will reflect on the insights you have gained from the Trails experience along with your integration and application from your expedition into your life. You will address the challenges you had and what you did to overcome and fully integrate your insights into your life.

SURPRISE REMINDER

Three to six months after the Trails experience, you will receive a small reminder of your insights to keep you on track.

"Nature provides connectedness and profound source of intuition. It helps us to start dialogue with self and others and become aware of our passion and talents."

WHY NATURE?

  • Nature provides a profound source of intuition.

  • The analytical mind disengages, and the creative brain begins to engage.

  • A hike energizes your body allowing your blood to flows faster

  • Reduces stress, improves your mood and enhances your mental wellbeing

  • Your senses are heightened enabling different parts of your brain to become accessible.

  • You trigger your biophilia, which helps stimulate your child-like curiosity

  • The outdoors is limitless and as such it provokes bigger thinking

OUR APPROACH FOR THE MOUNTAIN TRAIL EXPERIENCE

Our Trail has five distinct stages which are designed around your own objectives. Click on Read more button below to learn more about these five stages.

Screenshot 2020-01-29 at 12.36.44.png

FIVE STAGES OF THE MOUNTAIN TRAIL

The stages will not be linear. Some stages will overlap, and participants will go through the stages based on their own pace. You will have an opportunity to plan your individual coaching sessions during the Trail based on your need and timing to help you progress and ultimately reach your goals.

Screenshot 2020-01-29 at 12.36.44.png
Stage 1 - Disconnect

Disconnecting from your current environment, your daily concerns, to-do lists, from your judgments, typical references... Letting go of what you do not need.

Stage 2 - Open-up & connect

Opening-up and connecting with yourself, nature, and the other participants (partially). Listening to connect to your inner source of intuition. Start seeing who you really are without judgments, obtain clarity on “Your Question“ and realize what it means to you. Facilitated exercises will help you open-up and connect with you.

Stage 3 - Discover

Discover your automatic behaviors, boundaries, fears, inspirations, aspirations, purpose ... and discovering your blind spots. In this Discovery stage we will also challenge you mentally and physically, invite you out of your comfort zone (based on your own limitations) to let you explore beyond your current borders.

Stage 4 - Connecting the dots

Connecting your goals to your insights and then to your purpose results in answering “Your Question.” When you put all the pieces together you transform what needs to be done. We will utilize facilitated exercises, mindfulness, yoga and visualization techniques to help you connect the dots.

Stage 5 - Next step

Anchoring your insights will enable you to define clear actions to integrate into your life. This will help you to reach your goals. We will conduct a small workshop to help you define your next steps.

PROGRAM LOCATIONS

Intakes and personal coaching sessions are scheduled on an individual basis around participants’ possibilities and choices. Before and after trail workshops are planned in the Netherlands. Online participation options can be created if participants can not be in the Netherlands.

The mountain trail itself takes place in the Austrian Alps, in the Dachstein area. This area offers a variety of breath-taking landscapes and countless stunning routes. We will be staying at the Alpen Experience Hotel or Hotel Steinerhaus Stoderzinken in Austria. They deliver high-quality service, with warm hospitality and an "everything is possible" attitude. The place allows us to rest and restore after an emotionally and physically intensive day in the mountains.

"This trail  has led to discoveries and insights, and opened up possibilities beyond my imagination. Perhaps best of all, it invoked in me the wish to continue exploring. It was a true adventure. I felt connected to the earth. I felt connected to the people around me. It felt good to help others find things they were looking for. And be helped - how much energy I received from others in my own journey. It was an extraordinary experience
